Send Push

April 24, 2025 — Google has officially launched an Extended Repair Program for select Pixel 7a devices facing battery swelling issues, following user reports of physical deformation and abnormal battery behavior. The company acknowledges that only a subset of devices are affected, and is offering free battery replacements and appeasement options for impacted users.

Symptoms and Eligibility

According to Google, affected Pixel 7a users may notice the following symptoms:

  • Visible swelling of the device

  • Back cover bulging or separating from the body

  • Unusual battery drainage or failure to charge despite minimal usage

Owners can verify eligibility through Google’s official support site, and may be subject to physical inspection at authorized repair centers.

Free Repairs in Key Markets

Impacted Pixel 7a users are eligible to receive one battery replacement free of charge. This service is available through walk-in repair centers and mail-in options in select countries:

  • United States (walk-in + mail-in)

  • India (walk-in + mail-in)

  • Canada

  • United Kingdom

  • Germany

  • Japan

  • Singapore

Appeasement Options Based on Warranty and Region

Google is also offering financial or discount-based appeasement for users in countries excluding India and the U.S., where repair centers are readily available.

Out-of-warranty users may choose from:

  • A $200 USD equivalent cash payment

  • A $300 USD equivalent hardware discount code for use on the Google Store

In-warranty users (again, not applicable in the U.S. or India) are eligible for:

  • A $456 USD equivalent cash payment

These options vary depending on local availability and warranty coverage.

Part of Broader Device Support Strategy

This isn’t Google’s first time launching a repair initiative. The company has previously extended repair programs for Pixel 8 (screen issues), Pixel 5a (display problems), and Pixel 4 XL (battery defects), reinforcing its commitment to post-sale device support and customer satisfaction.

Pixel 7a users noticing battery-related anomalies are encouraged to contact Google Support immediately or visit an authorized center to ensure safe use of their device.
