Teacher suspended for drinking alcohol with students in viral video

Jabalpur: A govt schoolteacher in Katni district has been suspended after a video surfaced showing him drinking alcohol in the presence of students and allegedly encouraging them to do the same.

The teacher, Lal Naveen Pratap Singh of Government Primary School, Purani Basti Khirhani, was identified after the video came to the attention of District Collector Dilip Kumar Yadav on Friday. The Collector directed District Education Officer (DEO) PP Singh to investigate the incident.

To ascertain the teacher's identity, the DEO shared the video with education officers across all six development blocks of the district. The Block Education Officer (BEO) of Barwara confirmed that the individual in the footage was a teacher at a school under the Cluster Center, Government Higher Secondary School Barhi.

Based on this confirmation, the DEO issued an immediate suspension order.

The official order described the act of giving alcohol to children and encouraging them to consume it as gross negligence, a serious breach of conduct, and a violation of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Conduct Rules. It emphasised that such behavior undermines the dignity and integrity expected from someone in the teaching profession.

During the suspension period, Singh's headquarters has been designated as the office of the Block Education Officer, Barwara, where he will receive subsistence allowance as per the rules.
