American artist Chris Brown was arrested on Thursday at a luxury hotel in Salford in connection with an alleged nightclub attack, reports the Guardian
Brown was taken into custody in London for the alleged incident that took place two years ago.
Brown was detained by police at around 2am at the five-star Lowry hotel in Greater Manchester. He had just arrived in the UK ahead of a planned concert tour.
Brown is currently being held in custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm . The arrest is part of an investigation led by the Metropolitan Police.
The alleged incident took place in February 2023 at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair. Brown is accused of launching an unprovoked assault on music producer Abe Diaw, reportedly striking him with a bottle multiple times before punching and kicking him as he lay on the ground.
Diaw previously told The Sun that he was left needing crutches to walk after the alleged assault and had filed a civil claim seeking $16 million in damages.
In a statement, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 0200hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm."
“He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023.”
Brown is scheduled to perform 10 shows in the UK as part of his Breezy Bowl XX tour , which is set to begin at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester on 15 June. It's currently unclear how his arrest will affect those tour dates.
