'Operation Sindoor was a failure': Sanjay Raut

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday remarked that Operation Sindoor was a "failure." He that the opposition is not raising this issue owing to "national interest."

"Operation Sindoor was a failure operation. However, in the interest of the nation, we, the opposition, are not talking about it," Raut told reporters.


He also demanded the resignation of Union home minister Amit Shah for the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, where Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 men, including 25 tourists and a local. On May 7, the Indian armed forces conducted Operation Sindoor in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack.

"Why was Operation Sindoor needed? Because terrorists widowed 26 women in Pahalgam. Home minister Amit Shah is responsible for this...he should resign from his post. Or, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should sack him (Shah)," Raut said.

Further, the Rajya Sabha member questioned if the Pahalgam terrorists, who are yet to be caught, are hiding in Dahod of Gujarat, the home state of both PM Modi and Shah. On Monday, the prime minister was in Dahod on the first of a two-day visit to Gujarat, his first there since the anti-terror operation.

"You (Shah) are responsible (for Pahalgam). Where are the terrorists? Are you hiding them in Gujarat, or Dahod? Yesterday, Modi ji was in Dahod, right?" Raut asked.

Operation Sindoor, under which India conducted precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK, triggered military hostilities between the rivals. A ceasefire agreement has been in place since May 10, when Islamabad reached out to New Delhi seeking cessation of hostilities after the Indian Air Force destroyed 11 of Pakistan's 12 airbases.
