Max Domi seals Maple Leafs OT win, echoes father's playoff heroics

Send Push
In Game 2 of the first-round playoff series Toronto Maple Leafs earned a victory when Max Domi delivered an incredible overtime score against the Ottawa Senators . Three minutes into the extra period Domi scored an important winning goal that gave Toronto a 3-2 win. The Maple Leafs maintain a 2-0 advantage in the first round.

The drama, however, didn’t end with the scoreboard. The goal which Domi scored resonated powerfully with an iconic playoff moment that occurred twenty-one years back. In 2004 his father Tie Domi achieved an overtime victory against Ottawa Senators during the exact playoff round. Observant hockey fans together with the entire hockey world noted the spine-chilling likeness between the two situations.

Like Father, Like Son Moment

At just nine years old, Max watched his dad make Maple Leafs playoff history. Now, he's written his chapter, nearly identical to the one that came before. Tie's legacy in Toronto stretches over a decade, and Max has long carried that torch.

Although Max has played for six other NHL teams, Toronto holds a special place. His return this season was a homecoming of sorts. And in the postseason, he made it count. The goal not only won the game, but also strengthened an emotional bond with the city and its fans.

For the Senators, the Domi name is starting to feel like a playoff curse. Two generations have now delivered heartbreak. Both goals came in critical overtime situations. Both shifted momentum in a big way.

Toronto’s second win puts pressure on Ottawa heading into Game 3. A comeback won’t be easy, especially with history and emotion stacked against them.

Playoff Magic Continues in Toronto

The Leafs are now in a strong position, thanks to a moment that feels pulled from a movie script. The crowd erupted as Max celebrated, arms raised in the air, just like his father once did.

In a sport full of unscripted drama, this storyline stands out. For Toronto, it’s not just about moving closer to a series win. It’s about legacy, timing, and unforgettable moments passed from one generation to the next.
