‘Wake Up Dead Man: The Knives Out Mystery’ - the film's name that has kept the fans awake, after the mysterious trailer for the third instalment of Rian Johnson’s franchise was released. However, the greatest part about the trailer is not who stars in it, but who seems absent.

Who is likely to be murdered in Knives Out 3?
During the trailer launch at Tudum 2025, besides the confirmation of the cast and the eerie tone of the movie, nothing much was confirmed. However, the absent cast member in the trailer drops a hint about who would be the central victim of the film, according to Screen Rant.

From the observations, along with the possible casualties later in the film, the trailer hints that Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny) becomes the primary murder victim. While the speculation is not officially confirmed, Benoit Blanc is seen quite often alongside the other characters, but not Simone Viviane.

The cast members who starred in the trailer
Others who featured in the trailer, who were around the scene of the crime, include Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, and Daryl McCormack. In fact, along with Cailee Spaeny, Thomas Haden Church does not appear in the trailer as well, hinting at the roles that revolve around the victim.

Who would be the suspect in Knives Out 3?
In the list of confirmed characters, such as Mila Kunis’ role as police detective Geraldine Scott, who would be assisting Benoit Blanc instead of being questioned, Andrew Scott has been shown with a knife, suggesting that he would likely be the central suspect that would shape the film.

With its gothic tone and visually ghastly visuals, ‘Wake Up Dead Man: The Knives Out Mystery’ perhaps serve as a darker version than the previous films of the franchise. If Cailee Spaeny’s character turns out to be the central victim, the death of a young woman would serve a darker perspective as well.
