Vilasrao Deshmukh, a respected political figure, served as the 14th Chief Minister of Maharashtra during two terms (1999–2003 and 2004–2008) and later as Union Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences. He passed away on 14 August 2012 in Chennai due to multiple organ failure at the age of 67.
