What we learned from Merseyside police press conference on Liverpool parade crash

Merseyside Police have held a press conference and provided updates on today's harrowing events in Liverpool. Representatives of the force, North West Ambulance Service, Liverpool City Council and the Fire and Rescue Service all addressed the media after a car hit a number of fans during the club's Premier League trophy parade earlier today.

The briefing lasted several minutes. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Simms began by sneding thoughts to all those involved in the "horrific incident," and thanked the emergency servies for their response. She also said special officers had been put in place to offer support to families, and appealed to people not to spread misinformation.

How many people have been injured?

Dave Kitchin, of the North West Ambulance Service, confirmed that 27 people had been take to hospital for treatment following the crash. A further 20 were treated on the scene for minor injuries.

He also confirmed that two people had sustained serious injuries. One of those is one of the four children hurt in the incident. Kitchin
