Contestants on The Great British Sewing Bee were left utterly gobsmacked as an unexpected pair faced elimination from the contest.
The BBC's cherished reality competition show graced our televisions once more on Tuesday (July 22) evening, with Sara Pascoe resuming her role as host.
In the second week, the hopeful amateur sewers threw themselves into a trio of challenges, eager to dazzle judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young with their creations.
Kicking off with a technical Pattern Challenge, the contestants crafted a seven-panel cap. The Transformation Challenge saw them repurposing discarded cycling attire into chic new outfits.
The final task, Made to Measure, had the sewers fashioning athleisure wear fit for both gym sessions and coffee shop lounging, reports Wales Online.
Tensions ran high as two participants were set to be axed following the judges' decision to spare everyone the previous week due to Glendora's withdrawal from illness.
Despite their valiant efforts in the tasks, it was Saffie and Peter who had to bid farewell. Sara delivered the sombre news, stating: "Now for the difficult bit. You're all so talented, this was a really difficult decision but the two sewers leaving us this week are Saffie and Peter."
The announcement clearly shocked the group, as they turned to the departing duo in disbelief, with one contestant audibly expressing: "I'm so surprised".
Addressing the camera, a candid Peter, 45, confessed: "I kind of half expected to hear my name called. They were totally justified in what they said and I've learnt from them."
The seasoned pre-construction manager then reflected: "This is a big learning experience for me." A visibly moved Saffie shared her premonition: "I kind of had a feeling I was going to go because I just hadn't kept most of the challenges within time."

Judges Esme and Patrick weighed in on their verdicts. Esme remarked: "Peter, he was reflecting who he was, but it wasn't well sewn."
Patrick expressed his sentiments: "Saffie, I'm disappointed because I would really like to see more from Saffie but her execution let her down."
In contrast, Orla emerged as the top sewer, wowing the judges with her performance in both tasks. An astonished Orla reacted to her success: "I truly didn't expect to win it for sports, so I'm really happy. I mean, I couldn't have asked for anything better, really."
Patrick lauded Orla's efforts: "Orla was a very deserving winner of Garment of the Week, she absolutely nailed that athleisure brief."
