The is set to arrive in later this month, with temperatures well above 30C expected by the end of May. New weather maps from WXCharts have revealed that almost the entire the Iberian peninsula is due to face temperatures of between 27C and 35C on May 29.
The most scorching weather will mainly affect the central and southwestern regions of the country, with temperatures of 32C to 34C expected on the coast near Cadiz and Huelva. The capital, , is also expected to reach temperatures of around 32C. However, temperatures will reach their peak in Seville, the city crowned the hottest city in . These temperatures have arrived early this year, however, as temperatures do not often reach such highs before July.
On May 29, the capital will face temperatures of 35C, continuing to solidify is nickname as "the frying pan of Spain".
Located in the Guadalquivir Valley, features very hot, long, dry summers, with an annual average temperature of 25.7C. Even in winter, its days are mild with moderate rainfall. The weather station at Seville Airport registered the hottest temperature extreme of 46.6C in July 1995.
On average, Seville has around 60 days a year with maximum temperatures over 35C. In fact, it became the first city in the world to name a , with the nickname "Zoe".
The only other region expected to experience temperatures similar to Seville on May 29 is the inland region east of Badajoz, near Merida and Don Benito. Badajoz itself is expected to reach temperatures of 33C.
In the northeast of Spain, and its cities, including Barcelona, Tarragona and Girona, are expected to receive temperatures in the high 20s, while Zaragoza in Aragon is set for around 30C.
On the popular south coast, the likes of , Marbella and Almeria are set to bask in temperatures of around 27C to 30C. Valencia, on the east coast, is also expected to enjoy temperatures of 30C.
Even the will benefit from this heatwave, with temperatures of around 29C on , 27C on Menorca and 23C on Ibiza.
Spain's north coast will be the coolest region on May 29, with temperatures expected to remain in the high teens. San Sebastián, for example, will see temperatures of 17C.
