could be forced to face a police probe after being accused of antisemitism. This comes a week after the presenter was inundated with from the group, Palestine Lobby, titled 'Zionism explained in two minutes'.
However, the clip which Gary shared on contained an illustration of a rat, which was a symbol historically used by Nazi Germany to dehumanise Jewish people. Although the 64-year-old is expected to front coverage of the upcoming FA Cup and 2026 World Cup, the broadcaster has stepped down from presenting Match of the Day.
Gary will present his final episode on Sunday (May 25), after almost three decades starring on the broadcaster. Now, police have revealed that they have received "a number of reports," about the posts which will now be "assessed."
Although no decision has been revealed about whether the police will launch an investigation, the Met released a statement about the complaints.
They stated: "We have received a number of reports from members of the public relating to a post published on social media on Monday, 12 May.
"The reports will be assessed to determine what further action might be required. There is currently no police investigation into this matter."
In his apology Lineker said: "On Instagram I reposted material which I have since learned contained offensive references. I very much regret these references. I would never knowingly share anything antisemitic.

"It goes against everything I believe in. The post was removed as soon as I became aware of the issue. Whilst I strongly believe in the importance of speaking out on humanitarian issues, including the tragedy unfolding in Gaza, I also know that how we do so matters."
He continued: "I take full responsibility for this mistake. That image does not reflect my views. It was an error on my part for which I apologise unreservedly."
BBC director general Tim Davie agreed it was the right decision, having reportedly lost patience with the corporation's top-paid presenter.
"Gary has acknowledged the mistake he made. Accordingly, we have agreed he will step back from further presenting after this season," he said.
