Europe has faced a significant threat from Russia in recent weeks, with several NATO members accusing Russia of intrusions involving aircraft and drones, forcing them to send in their own fighter jets.
Brussels: Amid Russian President Vladimir Putin's ongoing war in Ukraine, Europe has begun preparing against the threat of World War III. Faced with security threats from Moscow's repeated air strikes, Europe has developed an incredible plan, including Air Shield, Space Shield, Drone Diva, and Flank Watch. Now, the continent is taking its preparations against Putin's aggression to a war footing. This decision comes after a series of drone attacks on European borders and airports.
Over the past few weeks, Europe has witnessed incursions by fighter jets and mysterious large drone sightings, as well as coordinated cyber-attacks that have paralyzed operations at major airports. Amid these circumstances, earlier this month, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for a multi-layered air defense system to counter the wave of Russian drone attacks.
The European Commission has now proposed four major European defense projects, including an anti-drone system and a plan to strengthen the eastern border, as part of a strategy to defend against a potential Russian attack by 2030, British media outlet The Sun reported.
Europe to create air and space shieldAdditionally, there are plans to create a European Air Shield, which will protect against missiles and other aerial threats. Furthermore, a European Space Shield will be created to counter threats in space and protect European space assets. A multi-layered air defense system will be built in NATO's eastern flank, helping to detect and shoot down drones.
Beyond countering drones, there's also a broader Eastern Flank Watch program designed to strengthen air and ground security along the EU's border closest to Russia by the end of 2028. Meanwhile, European countries, including the Baltic republics, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Ukraine, have held a virtual meeting to discuss securing their borders with a drone wall, a move European officials say is timely.
