A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Hazratganj police station following a violent altercation between two senior Income Tax officers in Lucknow — Joint Commissioner Yogendra Mishra and Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Garg.
Incident Background-
The conflict between the two IRS officers came into public view after a physical fight erupted on May 29 at the Income Tax Bhawan, Lucknow.
-
Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Garg sustained injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
-
The FIR reveals that the dispute between the two officers is not new; an old grievance dates back to a cricket tournament in February 2025.
-
During the BBD Cricket Ground tournament, Yogendra Mishra allegedly pressured officials to include him in the team and to make him captain.
-
When opposed, Mishra reportedly caused a disturbance by lying down on the pitch during the final match and abused fellow officials.
-
Twelve complaints were filed against Mishra related to this incident, which Garg was investigating.
-
Mishra allegedly asked Garg via WhatsApp to withdraw the investigation.
-
On May 29, Yogendra Mishra reportedly entered the room of senior IRS officer Richa Rastogi and began verbally abusing people, including Garg.
-
Garg claims Mishra threw water at him, then the glass itself, which narrowly missed him.
-
Mishra allegedly used broken glass to attack Garg’s neck.
-
Garg says Mishra strangled him, punched him in the nose, ear, and mouth, attacked him with his shoes, including hitting his private parts and knee.
-
Garg called emergency services, police arrived, and he was taken to civil hospital. His health is still not fully recovered.
-
Mishra claims he filed an RTI asking the reason for his transfer to Kashipur.
-
He alleges Garg leaked sensitive information and did not respond to the RTI while at headquarters.
-
According to Mishra, on the day of the incident, he asked Garg in front of a senior officer to respond to the RTI, but Garg dismissed him with “go for appeal.”
-
This led to a heated argument and eventually a physical fight.
-
The FIR against Yogendra Mishra has been registered and an investigation is underway.
-
Both officers have serious accusations against each other, highlighting a deep conflict within the Income Tax department.
