Andy Robertson responds to Liverpool transfer rumours with clear message on future

Andy Robertson wants to follow in the footsteps of and by signing a new contract at . has been at Liverpool since 2017 but is about to enter the final year of his current deal and knows his place in the side is under threat.

The international is still the first-choice left-back at the club, having held off a challenge from Kostas Tsimikas. But there have been times this season where Robertson has appeared to be a weak link in the Reds’ defence – and the position could be an area where in the .

Speaking to for For Change's charity lunch, as reported by , Robertson said: “I have only got a year left. So I hope all you guys (the fans) can help me with making the same noise around a new contract as you did with Mo and Virgil's!

“Maybe you (Carragher) can stop linking the club with other left-backs as well! No look, I've had eight wonderful years so far and I have a year left. I am not as young as I once was but I love this club and I have had some great memories here, so let's see what the future holds.

“I still believe I can still produce good performances and some really good performances and I think I have done that this season, so I still think I can produce at the top level and if I can do that then that is where I belong and hopefully I can stay here for many years to come.”

Robertson wants to be a part of Slot’s team going forward, having seen the potential in the Dutchman’s squad. “That is what we hope. It is so competitive now in terms of the teams who are involved and our team under Jurgen [Klopp] was unbelievable at times,” he added.

"And if you look at the points we racked up and lost out on two league titles and then the one we wrapped up (in 2020), finals and stuff like that, it is something we're all proud of for how far we went but we also believe that we should have had more.”
