Amanda Owen has admitted that there are 'tonnes of risks' on her farm that could be fatal for her children. The shepherdess-turned-TV star, 51, is mother to Raven, 24, Reuben, 18 Miles, 15 Edith, Violet, 14, Sidney, 13 Annas, 10, Clemmie, nine, and Nancy, eight, with her ex-husband Clive and admitted that she is often too busy to watch her kids but is 'proud' of the way they have become independent.
The Channel 5 star recalled a recent time when she was too busy to make breakfast for her brood, so simply told them to do it themselves and came back to find her youngest navigating an Aga oven.
She explained: "Nobody ever knows that temperature an Aga is but Nancy, who is only eight, was literally there with one of the spatulas and testing the temperature by gently, gently using her fingers and I thought...'I'm so proud of you.'

"If that was something whereby she could burn herself terribly, then that would be a different matter but there are certain lessons and things that you can do. We are very, very, risk averse as a society but that doesn't necessarily, in the long run, make for a safer life for your children."
During an appearance on the Made By Mammas podcast, host Georgia Dayton then asked Amanda about the 'risks' that come with farm life.
Amanda replied: "Absolutely. Tonnes of risks. You don't have to go so very far to find something that will kill you. Every which way you can go, you can find that.
"But you have to look at the things where you're not looking that can get you as well. Sometimes, the obvious risk is the easiest. We're surrounded by water. This summer, the children decided that every single day, they would swim. And literally, come hell or highwater, they did this."

Eventually, the children went night swimming and while Amanda initially had her reserves about her kids swimming in 'complete, inky blackness,' she recalled being a child herself and would always try to do whatever her parents had told her not to.
"That 'don't' attitude, often makes it more alluring," she added.
The Our Yorkshire Farm star insisted that it's not a 'free-for-all' when it comes to what her children to do, but has also noticed a shift in
She added: "It's not a free-for-all but it's funny how if you go for it, it finds its own balance and place. When I put pictures up online, people will look at them nostalgically, and say 'There's one of the children riding a horse, that's wonderful, it reminds me of my childhood!
"Hang on a minute, she hasn't got the right shoes, or the right safety equipment..' but it's that balance of what do they get out of it, what could they lose and balancing the odds? If you don't want the risk of falling off a horse, don't get on one."
