Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): Residents voiced concerns over extortion by eunuchs, particularly during occasions such as weddings and births during a public hearing chaired by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Community members reported that they were demanding sums ranging from Rs 51,000 to Rs 1 lakh, creating financial strain upon them, especially for lower-income families.
Agrawal Samaj president and social worker Mahavir Jain also alleged forceful extortion and indecent behaviour exhibited by some members of the community. Many such incidents have taken place in the area.
He stated that if their demands for money were not met, the eunuchs used abusive language and even threats. Minister Scindia directed the district administration to take appropriate action.
Although no formal complaints were filed with the police, eunuchs extort money from people at public places, traffic signals, wedding functions without being invited.
Future incidents of extortion would lead to legal action, cops confirmed
A meeting was convened with the community to address the grievances earlier but yielded no results. Police officials said that any future incidents of extortion would lead to legal action against them.
