Kannauj: Dowry Dispute Leads to Violent Fight Between UP In-Laws; Video Goes Viral

Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh: A fierce fight broke out between the family members on Saturday evening, in Shahjahanpur village of Chhibramau police station area of Kannauj district. A dowry dispute between the in-laws of a six-month-old marriage led to a violent brawl between the families. Reportedly, they had come to take the newly married woman to her maternal home for the holy Savan month.

The dispute escalated so much that both parties started kicking and punching each other. The video of the fight has also gone viral. After the incident, a complaint has been lodged with the police by the girl's side.

According to the information, Prashant Shakya, son of village resident Premchandra, was married to Shivani, a resident of Rajpura village of Etawah district, about six months ago. Since the marriage, the relationship between the in-laws and the parents has been disrupted.

On Saturday, for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Shivani's father, Mahesh Chandra, and brother, Saurabh, reached her in-laws' house to pick her up. During this time, there was an argument between the two sides over Shivani's jewellery.

Shivani's brother alleged that the in-laws were not returning the jewellery given at the time of marriage, while the sister wanted to wear it while going to her maternal home. When he demanded the jewellery, the in-laws accused her of theft.

Legal Action:

Shivani has filed a complaint at the Chhibramau police station. She has accused her husband and mother-in-law of mental harassment and not returning her jewellery. Meanwhile, the police reported that the viral video is also being investigated. Necessary legal action will be taken after taking statements from both parties.
