Despite being a familiar face in Bollywood, Nushrratt Bharuccha’s journey has been anything but easy. In a recent conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit, the actress opened up about the subtle, often unspoken hierarchy on film sets — and how it affected her, not just in roles or screen time, but in something as basic as access to a decent washroom. She recalled a time when she had to request access to the male lead’s vanity van just to use the restroom, simply because hers wasn’t up to the mark. In another instance, when the hero wasn’t around, so she politely asked his team if she could step in for five minutes. “That’s the reality,” she implied — one she never raised a fuss about, but quietly resolved to outgrow.
She further shared an incident from an international shoot where, despite being part of the cast, she was placed in economy while others flew business class. Even when her friends from business invited her to join them mid-flight, she refused. “This is the seat given to me,” she told them, adding that she would reach a point in her career where production would want to fly her in business. Today, she admits that she flies business class. For Nushrratt, the answer to unfair treatment isn’t confrontation — it’s growth. “I’ll raise myself to a position where this discrimination won’t exist anymore.”
