In June, K-pop Demon Hunters was released on Netflix, and ever since, it has scripted history, broken numerous records, and won millions of hearts. The animated film is going forward with a sequel, and co-director Maggie Kang has confirmed the same. Now, as per the latest reports, K-pop Demon Hunters has officially become the most-watched movie on Netflix and is showing no signs of slowing down, even in the face of new releases like Wednesday Season 2 and K-drama Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.

Kpop Demon Hunters breaking records and how

Within just 91 days, the film has been viewed 236 million times, according to GQ India report, surpassing previous record-holders such as Red Notice (231 million), Carry On (172 million), and Don’t Look Up (171 million). Netflix calculates views by dividing the total watch time by the film’s runtime, making shorter, re-watchable content like this highly favored in their rankings.

Even after the release of new shows like Wednesday Season 2, featuring Jenna Ortega in the lead role, the animated movie continues to lead. The hit Netflix series returns with Part 2 of Season 2 today (September 3). Meanwhile, several K-dramas, including Bon Appetit and Your Majesty, have been released and are still gaining traction with audiences.

More about Kpop Demon Hunters

Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, the film was co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. The plot revolves around a globally famous K-pop girl group who secretly double as demon hunters at night, saving humanity while balancing stardom.

The unique mix of anime-style animation and K-pop culture quickly grabbed the attention of younger viewers, especially Gen Z fans, many of whom streamed it multiple times. To capitalise on its popularity, a two-day theatrical release of a sing-along version further boosted the movie’s engagement.

The film’s soundtrack also became a cultural phenomenon, breaking records by placing four songs simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10, a first for any movie album. With a sequel officially in development, it looks like the K-pop Demon Hunters franchise is just getting started. Stay tuned and will keep you updates!
