John Cena to get Cody Rhodes 'fired' from the WWE?

Send Push

John Cena beat Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41 to become the new Undisputed Champion. This, however, was not a clean win as the soon-to-retire veteran received an assist from Travis Scott and hit ‘QB1’ with the belt to pick up the three count. The dirty finish helped Cena consolidate his standing as a heel. The former ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ is set to appear on WWE Raw tonight, where he plans to ‘ruin’ wrestling for fans. His ominous may spell trouble Cody Rhodes.

John Cena to get Cody Rhodes ‘fired’ on Raw? Possibility explored

John Cena, who won his 17th world title at WrestleMania 41 and broke Ric Flair’s record, is set to appear on the latest episode of Raw, and he may have some evil plans for Cody Rhodes. ‘The American Nightmare’ is supposed to get a rematch for the title, which could take place as early as next month at Backlash. However, Cena could prevent this from happening.

‘The Last Real Champion’ is friends with The Rock, a TKO board member. He could use his rapport with ‘The Great One’ to get Cody Rhodes fired (in Kayfabe) from the WWE, thereby depriving him of the rematch.

It was earlier reported that Randy Orton, Cody’s mentor,  is the frontrunner to face Cena at Backlash. This suggests that Rhodes will not appear at the event. As such, storyline-wise, the ‘firing’ angle can be used to write him off programming for a while. While this is speculative as things stand, it is definitely in the realm of possibility.

All about Cody Rhodes, John Cena’s feud

Cody Rhodes and John Cena’s feud started last month when the latter betrayed the then Undisputed Champion on The Rock’s orders after winning the title match. The champion and the challenger then exchanged words on Raw and an episode of SmackDown. Rhodes even laid out Cena on two occasions.

Come WrestleMania 41, they put on a watchable match, which featured a poorly-received finish. Travis Scott got involved and pulled out the referee at a key moment to help ‘The Franchise’.

WrestleMania 41 was held in Las Vegas on April 19 and April 20.
