When you leave the house, do not just take your purse and money, take some common sense with you too. It may happen that you are standing in a crowd and someone quietly steals not the money from your pocket, but the data of the card.
Nowadays, as fast as technology is progressing, the methods of fraud are also increasing at the same pace. If you think that your debit card or credit card is safe just by keeping it in your wallet or bag, then be careful! It is possible that next time, when you are traveling in the metro or going to a crowded market, your money may fly away without you knowing.
Actually, now scammers have a special device, which is called 'RFID skimmer'. It is a small gadget which works exactly on the NFC i.e., 'tap and pay' technology of our ATM or debit card.
You must have noticed that nowadays most of the cards have this facility that just tap it near the machine and the payment is done. These scammers take advantage of this technology.
If you have kept your card in your wallet, wallet in your bag and you are standing in a crowd in the metro or bus, then just a light touch is enough. If the scammer has an RFID skimmer device and he passes by you, then he can steal all the details of your card in minutes. It is so fast that you will not even know when your data is stolen.
After this, a clone card can be made using that data and transactions can also be done with it. Imagine, your card is with you but money is disappearing from your account, how dangerous is this!
So what is the way to avoid it?
Don't panic, there is a solution to this too. Now such wallets are available in the market which come with RFID blocking technology. These are made of a special kind of material which blocks the signals of the skimmer device, due to which your data remains safe.
If you don't want to buy such a wallet right now, then it's okay, there is a small homemade Jugaad too. Wrap the same aluminium foil around your debit or credit card and then keep it in your wallet. This also helps a lot in blocking the signal of the skimmer device.
So next time when you leave the house, don't just take your wallet and money, take some common sense with you too. It may happen that you are standing in a crowd and someone quietly steals not the money but the card data from your pocket.
