Aadhaar-based Biometric Authentication in SSC Exam 2025: SSC i.e. Staff Selection Commission (SSC), is one of the largest recruitment bodies of the Central Government, which is responsible for selecting candidates for non-gazetted posts in various ministries and departments. Every year several recruitment examinations are conducted by SSC, in which lakhs of candidates participate. The latest update is that the Staff Selection Commission has announced the use of Aadhaar-based biometric authentication for all its upcoming recruitment examinations starting from May 2025. SSC officials said that this step is being taken to strengthen the identity verification of the candidates and curb fraud, which will be implemented voluntarily.
According to a recent public notice issued by SSC, candidates appearing for the SSC exam will now have the option to verify their identity using Aadhaar in three steps. For the first time, the candidate will have to verify his identity during online registration, the second time while filling out the application form, and the third time at the examination center.
The SSC notice said, "The Commission has decided to implement Aadhaar-based biometric authentication in its upcoming examinations." It emphasized that the process is completely voluntary and is aimed at simplifying the examination process for the candidates.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), based on biometric and demographic data of an individual. Officials said that this authentication mechanism will help in reducing cases of impersonation and other fraudulent activities in recruitment examinations.
In a notification issued on September 12, 2023, the Union Personnel Ministry authorized the SSC to voluntarily use Aadhaar authentication, provided it complies with the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits, and Services) Act, 2016 and all the related rules, regulations and directions issued by the UIDAI.
Several recruitment examinations are conducted by the SSC. It includes SSC Stenographer, SSC GD, SSC JHT, SSC CHSL, SSC CGL and SSC JE etc. Each level of various SSC exams, i.e. CGL, CHSL, or JE, is conducted once a year.
